Application for residence card validity period extension / residence card renewal

Your Residence Card must be renewed within 60 days of the expiry date printed on the card, after a 5-7 year period. 7 years for permanent residents and 5 years for Spouse or Child of Japanese National, persons with employment status as "Engineer," "Specialist in Humanities/International Services," etc. Excluding "Entertainer" and "Technical Intern Training."

Documents needed 

1. Application form you can download from here (PDF)  or Excel from here
2. Presentation of current residence card
3. Presentation of passport 
4. One photograph 
5. You can apply at The Regional Immigration Services Bureau with jurisdiction over your place of residence (Please contact either a Regional Immigration Services Bureau or an Immigration Information Center (Tel: 0570-0139)

You can get the new residence card the same day. 

Fees: You don't have to pay any fees for renewal.
